Our Methodology

How we calculate salary conversions — formulas, data sources, and limitations.

Core Formula

Every salary-to-hourly conversion on HourlyBreak uses one equation:

Hourly rate = Annual salary ÷ (Hours per week × Weeks per year)

Standard default: $65,000 ÷ (40 hrs × 52 wks) = $65,000 ÷ 2,080 = $31.25/hr

All other periods derive from the hourly rate:

PeriodFormulaAssumption
DailyHourly × (hrs/week ÷ 5)5 working days per week
WeeklyAnnual ÷ weeks/year
BiweeklyAnnual ÷ weeks/year × 2
Semi-monthlyAnnual ÷ 242 pay periods/month
MonthlyAnnual ÷ 12
QuarterlyAnnual ÷ 4
